SLO Rugby left the comforts of home pitch and headed down to face the Orange County Bucks, in their first away test of the season. Arriving about an hour before kickoff, the SLO boys quickly went through their pregame warm-up and were ready to go by the start of the match. The first half didn’t go as well as SLO had hoped, being slowed up by their mistakes, penalties, and missed opportunities in support. Still, SLO was able to find the end-goal three times before the half; highlighted by a 40 yard break away for a try by Prop John Tricamo. The second half was a different story, however, as SLO Rugby started to loosen up and play, while the Bucks started to wear down. Reserve Flanker, Robert Gilliland, scored two tries, and Winger Shelby Williams chipped in with another long run for a try. Stand-in Stand-off, Oliver Walshaw, completed his hat-trick of tries, and played very well all game and was awarded SLO’s Man of the Match. Hooker Joseph Johnson and Inside Centre Marcus Hall also filled in quite well with conversion kick duties on the afternoon. All in all, good team play from the SLO boys lead to a good win on the road.
Next week, SLO Rugby heads to Las Vegas to matchup against the 3-0 Sin City Irish, in their longest road trip this season.
